About The i

Sharmakrenia is who I am, who I was born to be, and who I shall remain.  My name represents not only my identity, but also how I perceive the world in regards to race, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.  This site is intended as a platform to explore these ideas and how they relate to the development of self and enhance or curtail the ways in which we experience the world.

This blog was birthed from a lingering desire to find a place for my voice; to express my thoughts and feelings on the things happening around me, to me, and by me.  It also is a place were other perspectives will be heard, truths deconstructed, and lies untold.  My ultimate goal is to empower the unheard to raise their voices, validate their thoughts, and challenge the status quo by establishing new and ever-changing norms.

Most of us are taught not to “tell our business” and hold fast to that rule even when it hurts.  What we fail to realize is that it is only by sharing our stories and speaking our truths that we empower others to do the same.  By no means am I challenging the sacredness of privacy – in fact, I fiercely protect my own.  But privacy and secrecy are two different things.  Privacy protects sensitive information.  Secrets are toxic.  Secrets fester.  Secrets are painful.  Secrets debilitate. Secrets are lies.

Now, I know that sometimes secrets are necessary and, at times lighthearted.  But the ones to which I am referring to are the ones that are only shared after the bad happens.  The things you say and do behind closed doors that you wouldn’t dare say out in the open.  The ones that cause embarrassment and shame.  The ones we are told to keep.

This site represents the most authentic aspect of who I am.  The part of myself that wants to be heard, but for many years could not.  Its my way of adding my 2 cents to the social, political, and cultural conversations taking place around me as I initiate a dialogue of my own.

I invite you to join me on this journey as I give voice to the silent i.
